(sorry, changed my blog look again, and I doubt that it'll stay this way even)
Portugal v Germany
The Portuguese first choice are mostly well rested, having sat out the 3rd round match and are fresh and ready for action. Not so for the wayward Germans, whom, after a solid first round match, were made to struggle in the rest of the group stages.
Injury-wise, the Germans clearly have a problem with topscorer Podolski and Frings doubtful for the match. Portugal have no such problems. Right now however, the key to Germany winning this match lies in the feet of their misfiring forwards. There does appear to be a solid understanding between Mario Gomez and Klose, but that understanding hasn’t translated into goals.
Portugal have no such issues, as they don’t depend so much on their strikers. Their 5 goals have come from 5 different goalscorers, which belies the ridiculous theory that Portugal are overreliant on CR7 to deliver the goals. And with Deco putting his Barcelona season out of his head, Portugal are pretty much in the ascendancy.
Portugal to win comfortably 3-1. Both teams to start brightly, but the extra days of rest for the Portuguese will prove pivotal.
