Week 5 Recap – Ronaldo turns up the heat

So here are my five key points from the weekend. Let’s get right to it!

1. Did you have Ronaldo?

That was pretty much what separated the top-scoring teams from the rest last weekend. I stupidly decided to hold off using my Euro Transfer until next week due to the midweek Champions League matches, so I stayed with just Lewandowski. So, if you had Ronaldo, well done. Those who CAPTAINED him, well, you’re most likely the front-runners for the monthly prize at this stage. If anything, this should highlight to us how important it is to have these Euro players, simply because they tend to score more goals than their Premier League counterparts. I’m referring to the strikers of course...

2. The usual suspects flounder

Meanwhile, most of the popular BPL fantasy picks failed to bring home the points as goals came from mostly unexpected sources, Naismith, Herrera, Martial, Mason, Navas, Hoolahan and even Matic,  to name a few. Giroud and Walcott both scored, but who would’ve realistically picked them up, given the constant question marks over their starting status.

3. The Leicester spirit

Leicester was the one team that bucked the above-mentioned trend, with Vardy and Mahrez contributing again. Heck, if all teams had the same spirit Leicester had, we would have thoroughly entertaining games to occupy us. Of course, if you watched the last match of the weekend, you would have sensed that Villa were panicking after Leicester’s first goal, but that panic was fuelled by Leicester’s never-say-die attitude. Even after going 2-0 down they refused to give in. Mahrez (the No 1-owned player in the game), in particular, was everywhere, creating chance after chance and making life miserable for the defense.

4. Liverpool’s goal-scoring struggles continue

While Manchester United may have discovered some attacking fluency, Liverpool are still struggling to find theirs, Benteke wonder goal aside. Firmino was one of the poorest players on the field, and on this showing, he might not even start the next match. It may be best if we avoided Liverpool players for now until we see significant improvement to their game play. Sturridge looks set to return next weekend, so Rodgers needs to find out the right combination that will work.

5. What now, Chelsea?

Meanwhile, the defending Champions have now notched 3 defeats from 5 and could actually end up in the relegation zone if Newcastle randomly win today. I’m sure quite a few of us still hold on to at least 1 Chelsea player in the hopes that they will turn it around but that still hasn’t happened.  I have Pedro but he’ll be gone immediately if Chelsea fail again, so it’s good that their match against Arsenal is the first one this weekend.
